Reason for optimism.
Greetings everyone,
We are less than seven days from the start of another curling season and it has been a very interesting summer.
Our skip Peter Boudreau will be focusing more on academics and has decided to just play on Sundays. He won't be available every week but having him there 75% is better than nothing at all. He's pursuing a masters degree and the workload will be significant so I think it is a wise decision to just play one day a week.
Third Phil Dunville and second Darren Pellerin are back again with the former playing in three leagues and the latter sticking with Sundays. Darren is trying to gain acceptance to Concordia University for the start of second term which is in January. If he does have to leave for Quebec it will be a big loss but academics comes first. We've been pals for over 10 years and it will be difficult to see him go but we're big boys now. I promise no more sappiness!
Yours truly had a decent summer as well. I played a quite a bit of golf and had fun during my two weeks away from my job. I also decided to get hair transplant surgery which was pretty cool although I was in some pain for a week. I'm looking forward to the finished product and you will be able to tell by looking at last year's photos compared to the new ones I'll be taking throughout the season.
And to top it off, we finally garnered some sponsorship after two years of trying. Internet radio company GoGetIt has come on board and will provide some money for lettering on our jackets and contribute to tournament entry fees while we already have their weblink featured on our site. It should be a rewarding arrangement for both parties involved.
I decided to drop Thursdays from the schedule and play on Tuesday nights. I thought it was time for a change after participating on Thursdays the last three years. I have heard Tuesdays are the most competitive and although our team won't be near the top, I think we can surprise some people.
It should be an exciting Capital Curling League (CCL) season as I can say, without hesitation, that any team can win on any given week. We had a brilliant second half of 2005/06 and I do think we can finish in the top half of the table. Our problem has been the beginning of the year as for the previous two years we haven't picked up our game until January. Hopefully this is something we can correct. We haven't determined which tournaments we will play but I hope we can at least play one as they are fun experiences.
Some of the contenders in the CCL include Paul Hunt Jr. (last year's regular season and playoff champion), Sandy Chisholm, Stewart Slaunwhite, Paul Hunt Sr. and Neil Whyte. We have proven that we can hold our own with these teams, mind you a new team could have joined and they shoot the lights out but we'll have to wait and see on that one.
So a new sponsor, a new website and a new attitude but the same old boys looking to have some fun and make noise in a league we know we are capable of excelling.
Its good to have optimism, mind you I'm a glass half-full kind of guy!
Cheers,
Terry
